Baking, broiling, roasting…..it’s all I want to do lately!  I absolutely love my new gas oven, and still love the convection microhood, too!  And to be able to bake two different dishes in two different ovens is so wonderful!

Friday night I flame-broiled steak in the gas oven.  It was scary to watch my steaks cooking just 1.5″ below the flame, but they came out perfect.

Saturday morning I made a batch of brownies.  In our old oven, the timer would go off and the brownies still wouldn’t be done.  The middle would be soft and uncooked while the outer edges were burning and dry.  I made a batch a couple weeks ago in the microhood, and they came out perfect.  I made a batch Saturday morning in the gas oven, and they came out even more perfect!  And fast, too, since I used the Convection Bake feature, which speeds up cooking by almost 20%.  YAY!

I baked a couple of Costco pizzas and they came out evenly cooked with crispy crust, just the way they were supposed to, and in less time.

Sunday night I tried the Convection Roast feature.  I breaded several chicken legs and set them on a wire rack over a cookie sheet.  Ten legs were fully cooked, perfectly juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside in about 40 minutes.  Delicious!

Monday I used the Convection Roast feature again to cook up some chicken thighs for lunch for my daycare kids.  No breading this time, just a sprinkling of Emeril’s Chicken Rub.  Oh my gosh they came out so golden and the skin so crispy and the meat so juicy.  LOVE IT.  And the kids loved it!  It was so easy and the chicken didn’t have soggy bottoms like baked chicken usually does.

On Saturday, I noticed that I have a CAKES button on my oven, so I was curious to bake a cake and see what the difference is between “caking” and “baking”!   Monday night I made a yellow cake (boxed mix) and baked it in a bundt pan on the CAKES setting and it came out so incredibly moist.  Absolutely delicious!

Tuesday we were having spaghetti for dinner and I prefer to have French Bread with my spaghetti, but there was no way I could get to the store to pick up a loaf.  So I decided to make a loaf.  The first bonus was that there’s a bread-proofing setting, so of course I gave that a try!  Then when I went to bake the loaf, instead of using BAKE I used the BREADS setting and it came out perfectly crisp and golden on the outside and moist and fluffy on the inside.  It was amazingly easy to make, too!

(Gee, now I wish I would have taken some pictures of all this yummy food!)

I’m so glad we chose the oven we chose.  I absolutely love it.  It does an amazing job and the family is loving all the homecooked meals and treats of course!

Which oven did we chooose?  The Kenmore Elite full-gas range (Model 77533).  Highly recommended if you are in the market for a gas range!
