Here’s a favorite money saver trick of mine! We use a lot of shredded cheese: add it to pasta dishes, make quesadillas, sprinkle in and over omelets, add to burritos, etc. I used to buy the 2-cup cheese packages at the grocery store when they were on sale- for $1.50 each.
But now, we go to Costco and buy that HUGE bag of shredded cheddar/jack cheese from the dairy case. At home, we scoop it out using a 2-cup measuring glass and dump it into ziplock baggies. Put those baggies into a gallon size freezer bag and freeze it that way. We end up with 17 bags for under $10.00! I’m saving at least $15 that way!
(OK, it might be cheaper to buy no-name block cheese and shred it myself, but I’m looking for time savers as well!)
If you catch it on sale at Winco, you can get a 2 cup bag for $1.25. I never knew you could freeze the shredded chesse but it does work great!! My mom turned me onto this trick a few month’s back….you can never have enough cheese!!
